Freelance Writing 101

Independent Writing 101 Independent Writing 101 Independent Writing 101 By Guest Author Would you like to get by as an author? Maybe its a fantasy youve consistently excused as incomprehensible, and youve found a reasonable day line of work, or a bustling family life. Be that as it may, youve never surrendered your affection for words. Not well given you access to a mystery. You can make your composing pay. I do, thus do heaps of the individuals I know. Disregard what youve found out about incredibly low rates †it is as yet conceivable to make an expert rate from your outsourcing. Heres how. Stage 1: Pick Your Speciality At the point when I began outsourcing, I offered everything from site creation to altering and editing. This lone wound up confounding me and my customers, and regularly implied I took a shot at occupations which didnt truly intrigue me. These days, I center only around composing for sites, and do the periodic magazine piece. Dont be enticed to offer each word related assistance under the sun. It wont get you more customers. Consider it along these lines: in the event that you were recruiting an architect to make your business cards, OK go for the person who does everything from web architecture to logos to bulletins †or would you pick the person who simply works together cards? One speedy expression of counsel: its far simpler to bring in cash from genuine than from fiction composing. By all methods stay aware of your fiction as an afterthought (I realize I do!) yet dont depend on it to pay the lease. Some expansive regions where you could situate yourself are: Highlight composing for magazines and papers Composing articles for sites and online journals Specialized composition Copywriting (special or deals centered composition) Secretly composing Composing resumes Obviously, inside a significant number of these zones, you could bore down much further, especially as you become progressively settled as a consultant. Stage 2: Get Some Clips and Testimonials Independent picture takers and fashioners have portfolios. Consultant journalists have clasps or tests †instances of your composing which customers can take a gander at when theyre choosing whether or not to enlist you. Clearly, youll need to ensure that your clasps show your absolute best composition. You may feel like this is a Catch-22 circumstance: you need clasps to get employed, however in the event that youve never been recruited, how might you have any expert bits of writing to flaunt? Theres a simple answer: you produce a few bits of composing for nothing. You could basically compose a couple of tests which will never observe distribution with the exception of on your business site (more on that in a second), however you could utilize this as a chance to get distribution credits by: Doing (free) work for a cause or non-benefit association Visitor posting for an enormous blog Composing for your neighborhood paper or a free magazine Sharpening a resume for your companion Where conceivable, stay with the region youre represent considerable authority in: customers searching for a publicist might be astonished if every one of your examples are book surveys, for example. Just as getting cuts, youll need a few tributes. Generally, you should simply inquire! Accepting that the individuals youve accomplished free work for were content with the outcomes, theyll frequently be pleased to give you a tribute. Never make up tributes. Its untrustworthy, it would be massively harming on the off chance that anybody discovered, and genuine tributes consistently solid additionally persuading, as well. Dont be reluctant to utilize tributes which incorporate a few questions or antagonism (for example I wasnt sure what's in store from Joe Writer since Id not seen any of his work previously yet I was enchanted with the completed piece.) These are probably going to be consoling to imminent customers, who may well have similar questions. Stage 3: Setting Up In Business The procedure for setting up as an independently employed essayist varies from nation to nation. Look at whats required in your own nation, and ensure you record any applicable administrative work. Dont put this off inconclusively in light of the fact that you believe it will be a great deal of problem †much of the time, you can do everything on the web. In the event that you dont have a PayPal account, Id unequivocally suggest setting one up. This is especially pivotal if youre going to be working for online customers, (for example, blog editors or site proprietors), the vast majority of whom will need to pay by means of PayPal. Its additionally incredibly valuable if youre going to be paid in remote cash, as PayPal handles the changing over. Contingent upon your specialization and the market youre focusing on, you may likewise need: Business cards and letter headed paper Programming bundles (for example Microsoft Office, invoicing programming) A fax machine and a business phone line Dont be enticed to go out and purchase a huge amount of home office gear directly toward the beginning of your outsourcing venture †particularly in the event that you still can't seem to bring in any cash. You may well need to redesign your PC or your broadband association, or you may need another work area and seat once you begin outsourcing full-time, yet in the event that your composing is at present kept to a couple of hours at the end of the week, you dont need to go out and go through bunches of cash yet. Your Website One genuine fundamental is your site. Its so natural and modest to set a site up these days that customers will be shocked on the off chance that you dont have one. Besides, theres no simpler method to grandstand your composing clasps and tributes: your site can be gotten to from anyplace on the planet, whenever. Outright basics for your site are: Have your own area name. This could be your own name (yourname.com) or your organization name. Id suggest going for the last mentioned, particularly on the off chance that you may ever need to sell your business. Dont look novice. In a perfect world, youd need to pay for a custom web architecture †yet in the event that youre beginning on a tight budget, use WordPress and search for a layout which you like. Many are free, some cost only a couple of dollars. Check and edit your site. Missing connections and grammatical mistakes look messy. Youre an essayist, so ensure your site itself is an incredible case of your composition. Reach you. A few customers like to utilize a contact structure, others like to email straightforwardly †offer the two choices. Except if you have solid reasons not to, give a telephone number also. Stage 4: Learn All You Can Ive put this progression now since its simple to get stalled in finding out about composition and business, without really making any move. Its certainly critical to continue improving your aptitudes †yet not to the prohibition of really utilizing those abilities. In addition, I know as a matter of fact that it is so natural to purchase books, courses and preparing materials and leave them gathering dust on the rack. There are heaps of extraordinary assets out there for new consultant essayists, so peruse around and get companions suggestions so that youve got a smart thought of what will work for you. There are two wide zones where youll need to continue learning: Your Writing Basically composing normally, and cleaning your work to proficient measures, will show you a ton †however you can quicken your advancement by putting forth a cognizant attempt to learn. This may mean: Ensure youve aced the nuts and bolts. In the event that your grip of language structure is precarious, get a decent fundamental book and take as much time as is needed over contemplating. This might be somewhat dull, however it is significant. Following top composing related websites: Daily Writing Tips obviously, yet there are numerous other extraordinary ones like Copyblogger and Men with Pens. Peruse models from incredible journalists in your field. For instance, if youre a marketing specialist, pay special mind to bits of splendid deals composing. Keep a swipe document of your top choices †study them, make sense of what theyre doing. Approach a kindred author for input. On the off chance that youre battling with a specific piece, a second pair of eyes can regularly assist you with spotting issues or defects. Your Business A few people are splendid essayists †yet horrible at working together. They may wind up flopping because of an absence of promoting, a powerlessness to fulfill time constraints, or a dreadful handle on income. To get your head around business matters: Calendar standard time for administrator. Youll need to contact imminent customers, send solicitations, save itemized records for charge purposes, etc. Remain as sorted out as could reasonably be expected. Compose cutoff times onto a schedule, and plan ahead. Expertise much time you have accessible at whatever week. Document all papers identifying with one employment in a similar spot, so you can discover them again when fundamental. On the off chance that advertising and self-advancement panics you, at that point start little. Utilize a blog and Twitter to accumulate an after on the web. Urge clients to prescribe you to companions (maybe giving a motivator). Peruse outsourcing and independent venture web journals: Freelance Switch, Freelance Folder and IttyBiz are three incredible ones. Good karma with your independent composing venture †and dont neglect to have a ton of fun en route! Coretta Scott King Quotes Civil Rights Activist

Coretta Scott King (1927–2006) was preparing for a career as a singer when she met the young preacher, Martin Luther King, Jr. As he became a leader in the blossoming civil rights movement, Coretta Scott King was often at her husbands side in civil rights marches and demonstrations, and she often was alone with their four children as King traveled for the cause. Widowed when he was assassinated in 1968, Coretta Scott King continued to practice Martins civil rights leadership and non-violent activism and worked to keep his dream and memory alive. Her many speeches and writing have left us with a quotation library full of hope and promise.   The Ongoing Struggle Struggle is a never-ending process. Freedom is never really won; you earn it and win it in every generation. Women, if the soul of the nation is to be saved, I believe that you must become its soul. If American women would increase their voting turnout by ten percent, I think we would see an end to all of the budget cuts in programs benefiting women and children. The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members... a heart of grace and a soul generated by love. Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated. I believe all Americans who believe in freedom, tolerance and human rights have a responsibility to oppose bigotry and prejudice based on sexual orientation. There is a spirit and a need and a man at the beginning of every great human advance. Every one of these must be right for that particular moment of history, or nothing happens. Martin Luther King, Jr. My husband was a man who hoped to be a Baptist preacher to a large, Southern, urban congregation. Instead, by the time he died in 1968, he had led millions of people into shattering forever the Southern system of segregation of the races. In spite of Martins being away so much, he was wonderful with his children, and they adored him. When Daddy was home it was something special. Martin was an unusual person... He was so alive and so much fun to be with. He had strength that he imparted to me and others that he met. About the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday: Today is not merely a holiday, but a true holy day which honors the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Junior, in the best possible way. Today and Yesterday The more visible signs of protest are gone, but I think there is a realization that the tactics of the late-60s are not sufficient to meet the challenges of the 70s. Segregation was wrong when it was forced by white people, and I believe it is still wrong when it is requested by black people. Mama and Daddy King represent the best in manhood and womanhood, the best in a marriage, the kind of people we are trying to become. Im fulfilled in what I do... I never thought that a lot of money or fine clothes—the finer things of life—would make you happy. My concept of happiness is to be filled in a spiritual sense. About the Confederate flag: You are right that it is a hurtful, divisive symbol and I commend you for having the courage to tell it like it is at a time when too many other political leaders are equivocating on this issue. On Lesbian and Gay Rights Lesbian and gay people are a permanent part of the American workforce, who currently have no protection from the arbitrary abuse of their rights on the job. For too long, our nation has tolerated the insidious form of discrimination against this group of Americans, who have worked as hard as any group, paid their taxes like everyone else, and yet have been denied equal protection under the law. I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people and I should stick to the issue of racial justice. But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said, Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.s dream to make room at the table of brother- and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people. On Homophobia Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity, and personhood. This sets the stage for further repression and violence that spread all too easily to victimize the next minority group. Gays and lesbians stood up for civil rights in Montgomery, Selma, in Albany, Georgia and St. Augustine, Florida, and many other campaigns of the Civil Rights Movement. Many of these courageous men and women were fighting for my freedom at a time when they could find few voices for their own, and I salute their contributions. We have to launch a national campaign against homophobia in the black community.

Abortion misc2 essays

Abortion misc2 essays Abortion has been one the most controversial subjects in American history both socially and politically. Both sides have their points that they stand on. Though it looks like both sides will never come up with a solution to their problem it has split America in to two sides; pro - choice and pro - life. In January 22, 1973 U. S Supreme Court declared that a women had the " Fundamental Fight" to have an abortion, the ruling set off a vociferous and protracted battle marked by demonstrations and sloganeering, sit - ins and arrests. There included dozens of legal challenges that gave some victories in court. These rulings gave some comfort to the pro - life supporters to their defeat. In 1973 the rulings impose some restrictions on miners seeking abortions, usually requiring parental notification or consent. Nineteen states have imposed a mandatory waiting period for women seeking abortions, and all but 12 states oppose public funding for abortions. Opponents of abortion state the point that abortion is morally wrong and is also a form of murder. Meanwhile, pro - choice objected by saying it's the individuals choice of free will to do what they think is right. Pro - life brings up a point by saying what right do people have to aborting a fetus simply because it's the wrong sex. Another reason for abortions are unwanted pregnancies as well as the emotional instability of teenage girls in deciding how to handle an unplanned pregnancy. Rape is another reason for people to have abortion; pro-life simple say's it's not the feuds fault for what's happened. Simply if you can't bare raising a child because of rape, money problems, or commitment, just give the child up for adoption. Many who protect abortion are people of conscience. They know that their opposition to this procedure can not justify murdering those where medical practice includes ending unwanted pregnancies. A few however consider themselves r ...

The Persian Immortals

The Persian Immortals The Achaemenid Empire of Persia (550 - 330 BCE) had an elite corps of heavy infantry that was so effective, it helped them to conquer much of the known world.  These troops also served as the imperial guard.  We have beautiful depictions of them from the walls of the Achaemenid capital city of Susa, Iran, but unfortunately, our historical documentation about them comes from the Persians enemies not really an unbiased source.  Ã¢â‚¬â€¹Ã¢â‚¬â€¹Ã¢â‚¬â€¹Ã‚  Ã¢â‚¬â€¹ Herodotus, Chronicler of the Persian Immortals Chief among the chroniclers of the Persian Immortals is the Greek historian Herodotus (c. 484 - 425).  He is the source of their name, in fact, and it may be a mistranslation.  Many scholars believe that the actual Persian name for this imperial guard was anusiya, meaning companions, rather than anausa, or non-dying.   Herodotus also informs us that the Immortals were maintained at a troop strength of exactly 10,000 at all times.  If an infantryman was killed, sick, or wounded, a reservist would immediately be called up to take his place.  This gave the illusion that they were truly immortal, and could not be injured or slain.  We do not have any independent confirmation that Herodotuss information on this is accurate; nevertheless, the elite corps is often referred to as the Ten Thousand Immortals to this day. The Immortals were armed with short stabbing spears, bows and arrows, and swords.  They wore fish scale armor covered by robes, and a headdress often called a tiara that reportedly could be used to shield the face from wind-driven sand or dust.  Their shields were woven out of wicker.  Achaemenid artwork shows the Immortals decked out in gold jewelry and hoop earrings, and Herodotus asserts that they wore their bling into battle.   The Immortals came from elite, aristocratic families.  The top 1,000 had gold pomegranates on the ends of their spears, designating them as officers and as the kings personal bodyguard.  The remaining 9,000 had silver pomegranates.  As the best of the best in the Persian army, the Immortals received certain perks.  While on the campaign, they had a supply train of mule-drawn carts and camels that brought along special foods reserved only for them.  The mule train also brought along their concubines and servants to tend to them.   Like most things in the Achaemenid Empire, the Immortals were equal opportunity at least for elites from other ethnic groups.  Although the majority of the members were Persian, the corps also included aristocratic men from the previously-conquered Elamite and Median Empires.   The Immortals at War Cyrus the Great, who founded the Achaemenid Empire, seems to have originated the idea of having an elite corps of imperial guards.  He used them as heavy infantry in his campaigns to conquer the Medes, the Lydians, and even the Babylonians.  With his last victory over the new Babylonian Empire, at the Battle of Opis in 539 BCE, Cyrus was able to name himself king of the four corners of the world thanks in part to the efforts of his Immortals. In 525 BCE, Cyruss son Cambyses II defeated the Egyptian Pharaoh Psamtik IIIs army at the Battle of Pelusium, extending Persian control across Egypt.  Again, the Immortals likely served as the shock troops; they were so feared after their campaign against Babylon that the Phoenicians, the Cypriots, and the Arabs of Judea and the Sinai Peninsula all decided to ally themselves with Persians rather than fighting them.  This left the door to Egypt wide open, in a manner of speaking, and Cambyses took full advantage of it. The third Achaemenid emperor, Darius the Great, likewise deployed the Immortals in his conquests of Sindh and parts of the Punjab (now in Pakistan).  This expansion gave the Persians access to the rich trading routes through India, as well as the gold and other wealth of that land.  At that time, the Iranian and Indian languages were probably still similar enough to be mutually intelligible, and the Persians took advantage of this to employ Indian troops in their fights against the Greeks.  Darius also fought the fierce, nomadic Scythian people, whom he defeated in 513 BCE.  He would likely have kept a guard of Immortals for his own protection, but cavalry would have been much more effective than heavy infantry against a highly mobile foe like the Scythians. It is most difficult to evaluate our Greek sources when they recount battles between the Immortals and Greek armies.  The ancient historians make no attempt to be unbiased in their descriptions.  According to the Greeks, the Immortals and the other Persian soldiers were vain, effeminate, and not very effective compared with their Greek counterparts.  If that is the case, however, it is difficult to see how the Persians defeated the Greeks in numerous battles and held on to so much land adjacent to Greek territory. It is a shame that we do not have Persian sources to balance the Greek point of view. In any case, the story of the Persian Immortals may have been distorted over time, but it is obvious even at this distance in time and space that they were a fighting force to be reckoned with.

The Role of Women in the Late 19th Century Essay

The Role of Women in the Late 19th Century - Essay Example The progressive era and the oppressive ideas prevalent The late 19th century can be thought of as an era where rapid business and economic changes occurred, progression in terms of the legal rights and professional attitudes of women occurred. The image of San Francisco in the early twentieth century in the public areas is well portrayed by Jessica to be â€Å"one comprising of substantial stone clad buildings, visible down Market Street with a lively mixture of people which comprised of women in long dresses and hats and working women in business suits† (Jessica, 2011, pg 11). The women in the late 19th century faced much oppression in the work place especially in male dominated areas. Sexism or gender discrimination was at its peak in this era as female workers in highly proficient jobs faced opposition from both sexes. The major role of the women in the late 19th century was that of a housekeeper and caretaker of the children. The women from wealthy families hosted parties for business reasons and charity raising purposes. Working women faced a huge opposition from their family, society and at the work place. The women in the 19th century were involved in many reform movements like the women’s rights to suffrage, feminism to pacifism, temperance to abolitionism which changed the American history and gained many rights for the women (Kathleen, Therese, 1996, pg 25). There were many informal community groups involved to bring about a change in the neighborhood, the state, the society and ultimately in the nation. Women began to enter into all fields like journalism, photography, law, medicine and engineering. The publications like newspapers and magazines played a major role in the upliftment of the women (Kathleen, Therese, 1996, pg XVII). The right to vote was given to women in the 19th century by the joint effort of many women’s right movements active at that time. Discussion The book the Russian Hill murders by Shirley portrays the bac kground found in the late 19th century well in relation to how the women were treated, expected to behave and the general culture over the period of time. The book is a murder mystery set in the 19th century and the incident occurs at San Francisco. The female lead in the book is Sarah Woolson who is an attorney at law in the late 1880’s, inspired by her father who was a Judge (Shirley, 2005, pg 15). The firm in itself is a major obstruction for her as she is taken into the firm reluctantly and in every manner possible the firm tries to push her down from her professional practice. The women in the 19th century had demanding work, much more tough than practicing criminal law in terms of the physical effort they had to spend â€Å"I find it strange that practicing law in a comfortable well-heated office is considered too demanding an occupation for women†¦.† (Shirley, 2005, pg 6). Sarah overcomes the numerous oppositions she faces with a helpful few while following the female etiquette demanded from women during the late 19th century. Conclusion In the book Russian hill murders (Shirley, 2005) the social status of women in the late 19th century is well analyzed. The characters are all well portrayed and the background description fits in well with what existed in reality in the late 19th century. The lead character Sarah gives us an idea of how women in male dominated fields were treated in the 19th centur

Macro Project Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Macro Project - Assignment Example Attributed to their low population, the two countries have achieved one of the highest employment rates in the world. As the statistics have it, the two countries have achieved above 90% employment rate and hence the economy grows rapidly. The rate of inflation in the two countries is very low, though some disparities are clear. When it comes to exports, the two countries export petroleum products as their principle source of foreign exchange. However, Qatar exports fertilizers and raw aluminum while Kuwait exports cement and ships. Their chief imports include cars, jewelry and aircraft; and food, construction material and vehicles for Qatar and Kuwait respectively. Qatar has favorable balance of trade as the difference between the export and import is very high. This means that the currency in Qatar is very strong against that of the trading partners. This implies that the country earn a lot in terms of foreign exchange. As such, it is important for the country to maintain its export at a higher level as it directly impacts its economic growth. Other significance of a higher net export is that the country will have better terms of international trade and higher bargaining power in international trade and other affairs, Hightower

Compare the ways Old Man, Old Man and Warning Deal with the theme of old age Essay Example for Free

Compare the ways Old Man, Old Man and Warning Deal with the theme of old age Essay The U.A. Fanthorpe poem, Old Man, Old Man and J Josephs Warning, deal with the theme of old age in very contrasting ways. Both deal with similar issues, yet come out with very different views. The first thing we see in both poems is the immediate tone portrayed. Old Man, Old Man, starts talking of someone who lives in a world of small recalcitrant / Things in bottles, with tacky labels, while Warning begins with the colourful image that When I am an old woman I shall wear purple / With a red hat which doesnt go, and doesnt suit me. Purple and red tend to suggest a vivid and lurid tone, and the immediate contrast between the two sets the character in Old Man, Old Man as being reclusive and isolated, living in his own confined world, while in Warning we see the author looking forward to old age, seeing it a time for enjoyment of life. Old Man, Old Man continues to explain to the reader how old age brings deterioration and isolation to people, talking of how small things distress and having his hands shamble among clues, implying that old age brings more constraint and misery to a person, while we see that in Warning the coming of old age will give the author an excuse to break societys constraints, such as dressing strangely and wasting money on brandy and summer glovesand say weve no money for butter. A strong sense of bitterness and melancholy is created in Old Man, Old Man as the author describes a regimented, authoritarian past world, which has gradually worsened into a narrow, emotionless one. The man is seen to be upset by small incidents, have a deteriorating sense of humour and vision, and, despite his age, is still attempting to impose order on his world with his timetabled cigarette. The mans previous interests are belittled by using sarcastic phrases such as Lord once of shed, garage and garden, showing us that this man used to only be able to control his environment, and now he has lost the hammer, he cannot even do this. The traditional view of eccentricity is portrayed in both poems, however, Joseph also adds an element of freedom, showing her rebellion against taste and sobriety. Her excitement is shown in the language with the excessive use of the word and as well as the enjamberment, which stress the enthusiasm she has, and showing her to be breaking free of the rules of language in the same way she will break free from the rules of society. Further rebellion is shown as she talks of running her stick along the public railings and learn to spit. Sprawling sentences such as You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat / And eat three pounds of sausages at a go portray her excitement, as well as anticipation. Use of words such as I, and shall give a sense of force and individuality. Both poems have a similar structure, as they move from past to present in their tense. In Old Man, Old Man, we see a move to the present as Fanthorpe writes Now television has no power to arouse / Your surliness; your wife could replace on the walls / Those picture of disinherited children. This not only suggests the man has rage pent up inside, but also poses the question as to why the children have been disinherited their fathers love. The description continues as Fanthorpe says Now you ramble / In your talkfretting / At how to find your way. We see here that the man is slipping into a loss of control, and a change of personality. In contrast to this, we see Warning describing a present of constraints while she remains in the sobriety ofyouth. Joseph describes to us the way in which Now we must have clothes that keep us dry / And pay our rent and not swear in the street. The word must shows a lack of freedom and constraint in present existence. This verse is designed as a contrast to the previous verse, which had concentrated on the promises of old age. A sense of restraint is portrayed as Joseph lists all the constraints she has in her life. While Old Man, Old Man had showed a deterioration from a more happy existence to a worthless one, Warning tends to show one that has begun with constraint and will end with happiness and freedom. In the final verses of Old Man, Old Man, we see a turning points, where the daughter (and author) intervenes, showing that he has literally and metaphorically lost his way in the world with the phrase Where is Drury Lane? In the final verse, we see a slight raise of the grim tone, as we can see Fanthorpe prefers her father in this softer, less threatening manner, as the two have become more equal in terms of power. This is shown with the phrase I love / Your helplessness and Let me find your hammer. Let me / Walk with you to Drury Lane. This marks a point in the poem where the theme is now the relationship with the daughter and father rather than just the father. In a similar way, Warning changes in its theme towards the end, but not for the same tone. We see in the final verse Josephs confidence wane slightly, as she says Maybe I out to practise a little nowSo people who know me are not too shocked and surprised / When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple. This provides a relatively quiet ending, almost an anticlimax, to a colourful, liberated poem, as the tone becomes more restrained and the drive of her dream starts to lose pace. Circularity is also shown as the first and last lines of the poem both talk of wearing purple. In conclusion, both poems take different views in addressing old age, and even though some elements in structure are similar, both contain inherently different views, as Old Man, Old Man is a melancholy remainder of the deterioration the old go through, while Warning shows a more bright outlook, explaining the opportunities and liberation that will follow with the coming of old age. This may be to do with the fact that in Old Man, Old Man, Fanthorpe describes what she has previously seen, while in Warning Joseph is merely hypothesising what life may be like in the future.

Emily Pragers Our Barbies, Ourselves Essay -- Analysis Prager Barbie

Emily Prager's "Our Barbies, Ourselves?" In the essay 'Our Barbies, Ourselves,' Emily Prager explores the history of the Barbie doll and talks about the Barbie doll itself. Workplace Observation Essay - 746 Words

In the workplace there are many different aspects of the organization. Some of the aspects or culture of an organization are organizational diversity, dress and language, how communication flows, and organizational policies. Below I will discuss several aspects of the company I work for and define what the different cultures are. How Communication Flows As we know today there are many ways how to communicate. There is email, verbal, Internet, intranet, etc? However, there is only two ways communications flows. There is upward communication defined as ?communication from an employee to supervisor, supervisor to department head, department head to vice-president, and so on.? We clearly state that anything, is done on the company?s computer is subject to monitoring. In many cases mangers advise that they want a specific employee?s Internet monitored, or email monitored. We then report back to the manger that requested it, and they take it up with Human Resources. Ou r rule is that a county manager has to request it, and has to be good reasoning. Other departments, like the legal counsel talk about arbitration, before going to any courts. The accounting dept talks about fraud, the human resource department talks about attendance, and leave of absences, benefits etc? you get the idea. As you can see this easily answers many question when a new employee comes on board. Dress and Language The Dress code is usually defined in the policy handbook to clearly state what is expected of the employee.
